A Body Composition Analysis is Key to Good Health!Know Your Body Fat Percentage with our Body Composition Analyzer
Should you simply rely on the bathroom scale as an accurate way of monitoring your weight… your health? If you're at the right weight, is that all you should be concerned about? No, body weight alone can be very misleading. The scale cannot distinguish between a pound of fat and a pound of muscle. Unfortunately, many people over time, gain fat and lose muscle without a significant change in their body weight. Athletes and very muscular people may be overweight, but that does not mean they are over-fat. Too much fat… too little fat? Yes, we all need a certain amount of fat in our bodies to maintain good health. However an excess of body fat has been linked to an increase in the risk of cancer, diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has declared obesity an epidemic, with 66% of adult Americans either overweight or obese. And of course, too little body fat can pose a number of health risks - dry skin, increased cold sensitivity, reduced energy, hair loss, impaired immune system function, increased bruising and even death. Results are based on the fact that water conducts electricity. Fat contains almost no water, while muscle is about 70% water. As you step on the body composition scale, an electrical signal passes from foot to foot. The faster the signal travels, the more muscle you have. Gender, height, fitness level and age are factored into the tabulation. A print-out is then provided with the following information: Body Mass Index or BMI (height to weight ratio); Basal Metabolic Rate or BMR (total energy expended by the body to maintain normal functions); Fat Percentage (percentage of total body weight that is fat); Fat Mass (total pounds of fat in the body); Total Body Water or TBW (amount of water retained in the body); Fat Free Mass (amount of muscle, bone, tissue, water and all other fat-free mass in the body); and Desirable Range (healthy range for Fat Percentage and Fat Mass based on your age and gender). Body composition reflects the results of both physical activity and nutritional practices. It can determine how much muscle and fat are lost or gained as the result of any nutrition and/or exercise program. At the AIMS Clinic, we can measure body composition and develop an individualized program to help you enjoy a long and healthy life. What if… you were told to lose weight for health reasons? What if... you were told that just because you're at your “ideal” weight, that doesn't mean you're fit and healthy? What if... you were told that someone who weighs more than you is actually in better shape than you?
