Treatment for Constant Headache Pain in NJNew Jersey Patients Find Relief for Headache Pain with our Headache Treatment
“For the past three years, I suffered with chronic headaches. I walked in and out of many offices -Neurologist; Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist; Optometrist, Allergist and Dentist, without getting any help. I was on heavy doses of medication, unmanageable diets and told that my headaches were caused from grinding my teeth at night. Luckily, my mom saw an ad in our local paper for the AIMS Clinic. I quickly came in. After two visits, the cause of my pain was discovered - my neck arched the wrong way. I began chiropractic treatment to correct this problem. I have not felt this good in years! I rarely have headaches, and if I do, the pain is minimal! My life is back to normal! I consider myself lucky to have found AIMS and thankful everyday for what they have done for me!” - D.M. Headache statistics in the US are astronomical! In fact, 45 million Americans suffer with chronic headaches every year (an average of 20 million females and 25 million males), representing roughly one out of every six people. Alarmingly, it is estimated that 20% of children and adolescents have significant headaches. According to the American Headache Society, every ten seconds, someone in the US goes to the Emergency Room with a headache or migraine. More than $1 billion is spent on over-the-counter medications for headache pain relief. A Tension Headache, also referred to as a “Stress Headache” or A Migraine is an ongoing condition, seen in approximately 10% of the population. It is divided into two categories - Common Migraine and Classic Migraine. A Common Migraine is accompanied by nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound. The pain is very severe, described as being a deep throbbing pain and is usually unilateral (one-sided), lasting for 2 - 4 days. Pain associated with a Classic Migraine is very severe and lasts for 24 hours. It is preceded by an aura (visual disturbance - such as blurriness, seeing zigzag lines or flashes of light), and is associated with nausea, vomiting, cold hands and feet. Migraines (both common and classic) are the second most common type of primary headache, affecting children (equal ratio of boys to girls prior to puberty) as well as adults - affecting more adult women than men. The onset age for a migraine condition is between the ages of 5 and 8. After puberty, about 75% of migraine sufferers are women - which may be due to menstruation, pregnancy and menopause. Being predisposed to migraine headaches (75% of sufferers have a strong family history), does not mean you have to suffer with them the rest of your life! There are numerous migraine headache factors that can be addressed. Generally, they are classified into two categories: Genetic and Stress. Stress… stress… stress and migraine headaches. The result of stress is damage to the individual's nervous system, especially in the areas that are already overloaded, damaged or irritated. Physical stress may be the result of a whiplash, slip and fall or poor posture. Chemical stress may be the result of allergens, toxins, candida albicans (yeast), dehydration, hypoglycemia or the menstrual cycle. Other considerations include weather changes, medication rebound and lack of exercise. A Cluster Headache, also known as a, “Mini-Migraine” or a “Histamine Headache”, occurs far more often in men than in women, usually from the ages of 20-40. They commonly happen at the same time of the day for several weeks, months or even years at a time. The pain may be severe, sharp and steady on one side of the head, occurring 2-3 hours after falling asleep during the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) stage of sleep and accompanied by swelling and tearing in the eye and a stuffy or runny nose. Intense pain may last 15 minutes to 3 hours. Secondary Headaches: Less than 10% of all headaches are in this category and may be due to a sinus infection, brain tumor or aneurism. Sinus Headaches can develop from a common cold, due to the buildup of mucous (inflammation), which blocks the sinuses. Symptoms include a dull, throbbing pain in the sinus cavities located in cheekbones, forehead and across the bridge of the nose. Facial swelling may occur, along with nasal discharge, a feeling of “fullness” in the ears and fever. Pain is located in the forehead and behind the eyes. Cranial Neuralgias, Facial Pain, and other Headaches: This category includes headaches that are caused by inflammation of the nerves in the head or neck and facial pain caused by trigeminal neuralgia and other headaches, comprising a minimal percentage of all headaches. Trigeminal neuralgia occurs in approximately 150 per million per year and is one of the most painful conditions seen in medicine. Pain is felt on one side of the jaw or cheek, but some sufferers experience pain at different times on both sides. Attacks may repeat and come and go throughout the day and last for days, weeks or even months at a time. Additionally, headaches may disappear for months or years. It is more common in women than men, and rarely affects anyone younger than 50.
