Underactive Thyroid Treatment and Overactive Thyroid Treatment in NJ

January is… Thyroid Awareness Month

Thyroid treamentAre you suffering with fatigue, decreased energy and stamina; nervousness, depression or anxiety; cold hands or feet, skin problems, hair loss, insomnia, aches and pains or a tendency to gain weight? Or, perhaps you are experiencing muscle weakness, heat intolerance, trembling hands, breathlessness or a tendency to lose weight. Your symptoms may be due to a thyroid problem… an overactive thyroid (Hyperthyroidism), which is more common or an underactive thyroid (Hypothyroidism).

If a thyroid problem is left untreated, there may be an increased risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, emphysema, arthritis, migraine and carpal tunnel syndrome. According to research, women are up to ten times more likely then men to have thyroid problems. If you are suffering with hyperactive thyroid symptoms or low thyroid symptoms, thyroid treatments are offered at the AIMS Clinic.

At the AIMS Clinic, patients come to us who have not had success with conventional medicine. Although our focus is on prevention, we specialize in chronic pain and illness - assembling a Team of Experts in Pain Management, Physical Therapy and Chiropractic Care. We successfully help patients - from infants to seniors, who seek natural ways to improve health. We offer a wide range of medical treatment options, which include therapeutic vitamin, mineral and amino acid drips; immune system support and detoxification protocols. In addition, specialized testing to detect hormonal imbalances, food and environmental allergies, nutritional deficiencies, candidiasis (intestinal yeast), heavy metal toxicity and immune system dysfunction are available. This approach aims to detect the underlying cause or causes of symptoms, so that underactive thyroid treatment or overactive thyroid treatment can be implemented.

Here at the AIMS Clinic, we take the time to listen and understand eachThryoid treatments NJ patients’ health history, conduct structural and/or muscular evaluations, and order specialty metabolic and nutritional lab tests, which are drawn at our Center. It is important to note that many of the standard thyroid tests (for T3, T4, and TSH levels) often fail to pinpoint an under-functioning thyroid. Therefore, we conduct additional testing, such as the free T3 and the free T4, which measures free blood levels. This helps to uncover the integrated relationship between genetic, environmental, nutritional, metabolic and lifestyle factors that impact health and chronic diseases. Once tests and evaluations are analyzed, it will be determined if there is a thyroid problem and more importantly, what the cause or underlying cause may be, in order to formulate a customized treatment program. Detecting the cause is vital!

The thyroid gland is located in the front of the neck near the "Adam's Apple". Hormones that are produced by the thyroid gland help control the body's metabolism - energy. The brain sends messenger hormones to the thyroid to tell it how to function. The nerves of the spine also control the blood supply to the thyroid. If injuries have been sustained - affecting the spine and nerve function, then the thyroid may not function properly. Chiropractic care can help reverse a trauma-induced neck injury, thereby reducing irritation to the injured nerves that supply the thyroid. Correcting spinal injuries may help thyroid function.

hyperthyroidism NjFor other patients, the cause of a thyroid problem is located in the gut. If the gut does not absorb the nutrients to make the thyroid hormones, a low thyroid level may result. As we often say… “The road to good health is paved with good intestines.” Frequent use of antibiotics, corticosteroid inhalers or corticosteroid creams can destroy the beneficial GI microflora... which may cause an immune system imbalance… leading to adrenal dysregulation... altering thyroid function.  Since 60% of the immune system is in the GI tract, balance is vital!

The thyroid gland produces the hormone thyroxine (controls metabolic rate), of which iodine is an essential component. Therefore an iodine deficiency must be considered. If a deficiency is uncovered, an iodine rich diet (seafood, seaweed, organic vegetables, eggs and iodized salt) may be recommended. Avoid raw cabbage, turnips, peanuts and mustard, which may interfere with iodine absorption.

Once diagnosed with a thyroid condition, our Team provides nutritional counseling, chiropractic care, physical therapy and/or medical treatment prescriptions. As an added convenience, regular blood tests are conducted on site, saving time - providing results quickly should treatment adjustments be considered.

Thyroid treatments and recommendations are based upon objective findings, which may include:

  • Follow a healthy, whole-food, nutrient-dense diet. Customized diets are created by our Medical Team and Board Certified Clinical Nutritionist.
  • Intravenous vitamin, mineral and amino acid therapy to improve the metabolic demands and tissue depletion of nutrients due to injuries and/or stress.
  • Spinal and muscular correction and maintenance.
